The Fargo Moorhead Opera’s Gate City Bank Young Artists Program is headed into their seventh year with the recent arrival of the young artists to Fargo, ND on February 10th, 2020.
Funded largely in part by Gate City Bank with additional support from Anda Properties, the Fargo-Moorhead Area Foundation and The Twin Cities Opera Guild. The four young artists will be spending a total of 10 weeks with FM Opera working on improving their stage skills, singing roles in the FM Opera’s “North of Normal” Chamber Opera production of “Speed Dating Tonight” (coming up in March) and roles in the season finale of Pietro Mascagni’s “Cavalleria Rusticana” in the early part of April. They will also be performing mini concerts at The Fine Arts Club, the FM Music Club, as well as singing for educational outreach events around the Fargo-Moorhead area.
“Gate City Bank’s support of the Young Artist Program at Fargo Moorhead opera demonstrates an incredible commitment to education and the arts not only in our community but nationwide. This program is integral to the development and career training of our young artists as they embark on their lives as performing artists on stages around the world”, said David Hamilton, General Director of FM Opera and the Young Artist Program. “Gate City Bank’s support tangibly fosters an appreciation of and pride in the arts community of Fargo-Moorhead in area schools and throughout the region. This is the only training program of its type in our region for young vocal professional artists.”
“Gate City Bank is proud to sponsor the FM Opera’s Young Artist Program and give young artists the opportunity to perform their musical art throughout our communities,” said Steve Swiontek, Chairman, President, and CEO of Gate City Bank. “We are committed to creating a better way of life for our customers, communities and team members, and this investment supports that mission.”
Neill Campbell, currently living in East Lansing, Michigan, joins the program this year as the FM Opera’s resident piano and vocal coach. The four young artists that were selected from over 230 applicants to participate in this year’s program are Kara Covey (Texas), Rebecca Sacks (Pennsylvania), Gabriel Hernandez (New York), and Ryan Hill (North Carolina).
